Primary Tutoring

Note: Since the lockdown period from March 2020, I have transferred tuition lessons online using Zoom. See my virtual classroom below.

I provide tuition to primary school children on a 1-1 basis. I tutor 8–11 year olds who need a boost in self-esteem.

My specialism is those who need a boost in self-esteem in Maths and English, including reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation, grammar, handwriting, and writing composition.  I give children confidence when covering the knowledge needed for Year 6 SATs.

Rates of tutoring

My price rates are £40 per hour for in-person, and £50 for online tuition on Zoom. Prices will be determined on an individual basis.

This takes several things into account: my 30 years of experience and excellent results; on Zoom I use electricity for a full hour, also lesson activities require to be emailed before the lesson for printing so the child can use them, so preparations take much more than the actual hour of tuition.

Reviews and testimonials

I am proud of the success I have achieved in improving children’s learning and self-esteem using praise and encouragement. Here are five-star testimonials from parents.

  • Annie coached my 11-year old daughter (via Zoom) once a week for 6 months. Annie did a great job, adapting the materials to suit my child’s learning style, and making the sessions interesting and fun. The coaching has made a huge difference – my daughter is now much more confident with reading and handwriting, and is enjoying reading for pleasure. Annie’s long experience of primary school teaching really shone through in the way she structured the sessions and offered praise and encouragement. I can highly recommend Annie as a primary tutor. (Beck, Australia) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • We are so pleased with our son’s school report. It’s such an improvement in what has been a strange and disruptive year. The improvement in English has been dramatic, showing he is well above where he was expected to be. He is now at the highest level, which is all thanks to you,  Annie! (Nick, Essex) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Annie has been tutoring our daughter for about a month and I can already see a big difference in her Math skills. She really enjoys and looks forward to the lessons and we find Annie’s progress reports extremely useful. We will definitely recommend her. (Athena, Essex) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Annie is a fun, calm, creative and experienced tutor who immediately put my son at ease. He looks forward to her English and Maths lessons and loves her ideas and games. We would definitely recommend her. (Diana, Essex) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Understanding mental health

In 2024 I passed a course with The Skills Network called Understanding Mental Health First Aid. It helped me to understand how to promote good mental health and to support parents and children with mental ill health. I promote the benefits of self-care.

Blogging about education

In addition, I have written a series of blog posts about education, teaching and learning.  In them I recommend other educational bloggers who I have discovered in my research. Here is my latest blog post about education: Philosophy for Children
